How to get certified to ASI

To achieve ASI certification, your organization must implement responsible practices aligned with ASI Performance and/or CoC Standards. As an approved ASI CAB, DNV supports you throughout the journey – from training and pre assessments to full certification services. The certification journey:

  • Review the Performance and Chain of Custody Standards and identify which apply to your operations.

  • Conduct self assessments or request a DNV gap analysis to determine readiness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Ensure your processes, controls, governance, and documentation meet ASI requirements.

  • DNV audits your operations to verify conformity with the chosen standards.

  • Upon successful audit, DNV issues your ASI certificate(s). Surveillance audits help maintain compliance and continual improvement.

ASI Certification - FAQ

  • Focused on responsible aluminium production and sourcing, the two ASI standards – the Performance Standard and the Chain of Custody Standard –  which define environmental, social and governance requirements for sustainability and human rights across the entire aluminium value chain.

  • ASI certification is an independent verification by a third party like DNV to verify that a company meets the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s sustainability and responsible sourcing standards across the aluminium value chain. It is based on the ASI Performance Standard and the Chain of Custody Standard, which cover environmental, social, and governance practices as well as traceability.

  • You get ASI certified by undergoing an independent audit by a third party like DNV against the ASI Performance Standard and, if applicable, the Chain of Custody Standard. The process typically includes a self‑assessment, preparation, an accredited third‑party audit, and the implementation of any required improvements before certification is issued.

  • Maintain ASI certification by undergoing required surveillance audits every 12–18 months and a full recertification audit every three years to confirm ongoing compliance with the standards.
