Greenhouse Gas (GHG) verification services (Scope 1, 2 and 3)

Independent third-party verification of your GHG emissions helps build trust and demonstrate climate accountability

With increasing climate-related disclosure requirements and growing stakeholder pressure, accurate and transparent GHG reporting is more important than ever. Verified GHG inventories help demonstrate that your organization is taking credible action to reduce its carbon footprint and align with international climate goals.

At DNV, we provide third-party GHG verification services as a standalone engagement or as part of your broader sustainability report assurance. We verify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals across scopes 1, 2 and 3. Our independent validation ensures your emissions disclosures are complete, consistent, and aligned with both global frameworks and local compliance requirements.

Why GHG Verification is important

Independent GHG verification delivers several key benefits:

  • Ensures accuracy and transparency – Verified data gives stakeholders confidence in your climate-related disclosures.
  • Supports compliance and avoids penalties – Helps meet regulatory requirements like Singapore’s Carbon Pricing Act (CPA) or the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
  • Supports regulatory and investor compliance – Many regional and international disclosure schemes now require or strongly encourage third-party verification.
  • Drives credible decarbonization – Verified inventories provide a clear foundation for tracking and reducing emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
  • Unlocks opportunities in green finance and procurement – Verification helps meet supply chain expectations and sustainability-linked investment criteria.

By verifying your GHG emissions, your organization can reduce risk, meet disclosure obligations, and support decarbonization efforts with greater confidence.

How it works: Our GHG verification process and methodology

We conduct independent third-party verification in accordance with internationally recognized standards such as the ISAE 3000 and upcoming ISSA 5000 for assurance engagements, ISO 14064-3 for Greenhouse Gas External Verification and regional compliance mechanisms such as Singapore’s Carbon Pricing Act (CPA) and EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

Our process typically includes:

  • Assessment of data collection methodology
  • Data tracing to source documents
  • Interviews with key personnel

DNV as Accredited External Auditor in Singapore

Under the Carbon Pricing (Measurement, Reporting and Verification) Regulations 2018, facilities in Singapore that emit 25,000 tonnes or more of GHG per year must engage an accredited external party for annual GHG verification.

DNV is accredited by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to conduct third-party verification under Singapore’s Carbon Pricing Act (CPA), specifically for:

  • Non-complex sectors
  • Sector 3: Manufacture of semiconductor devices and wafers

We support your organization with timely, audit-ready verification services that ensure alignment with Singapore’s MRV requirements.
