World Accreditation Day 2018 focuses on how accreditation leads to a safer world.
Everyone expects workplaces, products, transport and food – in fact all aspects of life - to be safe. However, statistics show that this expectation is not always met.
Closing this gap is a vital consideration for governments, regulators and businesses aiming to keep people safer at work, in their domestic life, while travelling and in all other parts of life. Standards, conformity assessments and accreditation are well established and accepted tools used to help create a safer world.
The use of management systems to help reduce health & safety risks will be considerably expanded following the publication of the first ISO Health & Safety management system standard, ISO 45001. This is designed to improve organizations’ health & safety performance by recognizing the risks and developing objectives, policies, processes and controls to minimize them.
Accreditation determines the technical expertise, integrity and impartiality of organizations that provide conformity assessment services, such as testing, calibration, certification, and inspection based on international standards. Completed projects, raw materials, products, processes, services, management systems, and persons can be evaluated against a standard, code of practice, or regulatory requirement by testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies and validation & verification bodies (collectively known as Conformity Assessment Bodies).
